Smart home delivery
Transportation of goods was always essential, but what we have today living in smart cities with increasing number of online buyers and e-retailers?
People get used to new innovations, Internet of things and access to big data, which allowed companies to offer more delivery choices like for example, the introduction of drones or using the smart parcel delivery box for home delivery, implement the robotic systems and management software. As always, intelligence transportation system aimed to minimize time of transportation, meet deadlines and increase customers satisfaction, but also nowadays the delivery tries to improve the environment by using electronical auto, minimizing impact on urban communities.
In 2016 were noticed the following delivery developments:
- Amazon informed about new program Prime Air, which means transportation via drones taking maximum 30 minutes right to the door of customer. The same was done by DHL and other leading companies.
In fact, the Cash management team of Sberbank are trying to improve this system, they made an application which allowed customers to order cash delivery as easy as taxi, managing and tracking the delivery. The representatives explain the need of cash delivery as for example what if in the restaurant there will be technological failure and will be impossible to pay by card, the drone delivery can be solution.
Moreover, as many people had doubts about cash delivery due to its insecurity, the Sberbank found a way to minimize risk of robbery, inside the box there are colored cartridges so that in case of any unexpected situation the money will be painted in such way that they could not been used anymore.
- The development of driverless delivery vehicle also played a significant role in smart delivery and is widely used for home delivery. (2017 Commercial Transportation Trends, 2017)
How it works?
- Another important innovation of smart home delivery became a purchasing of smart delivery box, that provides customers with safe lockers. In case you are not at home and cannot wait for deliver the delivery box will be useful. It is a box, which can be closed by deliverer and opened by your key or pin code. The customer will receive the email informing if the box is opened, the carrier arrived and left the order or if someone tried to put wrong PIN.
In conclusion I would say, that smart cities offer a lot of opportunities for both sides as consumers so producers. Due to the Big Data, IoT and a lot of software like SAP, ERP or Intel software, which help to analyse and manage the processes of whole logistic network, the transportation management is always innovating and becoming more automatic.
