QR-codes to increase the efficiency and decrease costs

A lot of big companies can afford to invest a lot of money in inventory management software to save even more money. But for smaller companies it can be difficult to find the resources to invest in an elaborate system or machines.

I came across this video of a man talking about how he used QR-codes as an inventory system for his products. He runs a high-volume print company which demands that you know exactly what you have in stock. But since it is a small business, it would be too expensive to have to buy big machines. So instead, with only QR-codes and an app, the employees use their smartphones and can upload all deliveries to and from the company fast and at a low cost.

Apparently, this speeds up the process of the printing firm by 60%. He can also track what each individual worker is doing, what is being used and what is done, from his pocket.

They just open the app, scan the product when it arrives or is finished and labeled, and when it is being shipped to customers. This way, they can quickly see how much they have of every product and what they need to order more of. It is also easy to add products, because a lot of finished products already have some type of barcode. However, it is not the fastest process of scanning the QR-code into the system, but you can invest in a QR-code scanner for smartphones.

It took them 6 hours by a freelance coder to create their personal software system for the app. Now, all the employee’s needs are a smart phone (which most people already have) and a Wi-Fi to be able to do their jobs. No need for expensive machines or systems to keep track of your stock.
