“How to organize a collaborative and sustainable transportation in a smart city? How to organize the transportation for home delivery?”
What is a smart city?

A smart city is a city that addresses public issues through IT solutions and based on new partnerships between government, companies, residents and knowledge institutions. The key is to respond adequately and efficiently to the changing need for functions in the city and the needs from the residents. That is why the smart city is not only custom made for each city with his different needs, but will also evolve with the needs and standards of the residents of the city.
Nowadays, there is a lot of technology and knowledge development based on smart technology. However, all the parties who develop these knowledge and technology, work too independently on solutions. There is a need for cooperations to solve public issues.
A good example of a party who is seeking to combine powers from different parties to solve public questions is Amsterdam Smart City. They develop projects and involve all stakeholders in order to find a solution. There are a lot of current projects that focus on sustainability and collaboration.
For example, “Commercial waste in the inner city”:

In Amsterdam, as an entrepreneur, you need to collect your own waste when you have more than nine garbage bags. However, there are several private companies who will collect your waste. So, those companies take only the garbage bags of their customers, and leave the garbage bags of the neighbour for the competitor. This has negative implications for several reasons. First of all, Amsterdam is an extremely crowded area, where they already try to minimize the vehicle movement. These several private waste collector companies are contributing unnecessary vehicle movement. Moreover, the unnecessary vehicle movement is accompanied with unnecessary air pollution, noise disturbance and unsafe situation in traffic. Amsterdam Smart City explores via this project how the cooperation between entrepreneurs and waste collectors can contribute to a cleaner and better city environment.
