Nowadays, companies want to make money. They do this by selling things that consumers want (at time and wherever they want). So, the companies have to predict demand well to achieve their goals. Therefore, they need to be ready to respond of the demand through a good organization.

The companyies have to start with determining what the demand might be in the future and planning how to manage it is demand planning. To properly manage demand, companies need to look at many factors. First, they need to try and understand their customers. What do their customers want? They also need to consider marketing. If you want to sell more products, you might increase your commercialization of the product. Companies might even influence demand by their prices and promotions.


Another main point is the demand planner; it is the integration point into the sales and commercial organization. Basic forecast modeling is the responsibility of this position. This position leads the dialogue each day, month, year for their respective customers and products with key counterparts in sales and marketing.

 
Many companies have a product portfolio, which consists in a collection of all the products or services offered by a company. This is essential for analysts supporting internal corporate financial planning.

For this reason, the role of demand planning is very important if your company have a product portfolio. In a few words, demand’s indispensable.
